VISTA+: Pioneering Workforce Development in the U.S. Virgin Islands
The Virgin Islands STEM Talent Archive (VISTA+) marked an ambitious step forward in bridging the gap between the Virgin Islands’ workforce needs and the untapped potential of USVI tech and STEM professionals worldwide. Launched by the UVI Research and Technology Park (RTPark), this forward-thinking initiative was created to attract and retain top-tier talent, aligning with the Territory’s vision for a thriving, innovation-driven economy.
While initially developed the RTPark in 2019 and launched to the public in 2020 with the support of ShoreiQ, VISTA+ gained additional momentum through a collaboration with the Virgin Islands Department of Labor in 2022. This partnership expanded access to resources, connected more Virgin Islanders with local companies through its innovative platform, and demonstrated the power of aligning economic development with workforce needs to achieve greater reach and impact.
The Vision of VISTA+
VISTA+ aimed to address critical challenges such as “brain drain” and talent retention by offering Virgin Islanders around the globe a platform to reconnect with the Territory. It allowed local companies to post job openings, apprenticeships, and internships, fostering opportunities for meaningful engagement with highly skilled professionals.
VISTA+’s Legacy and Influence
Although VISTA+ has concluded, its legacy lives on in its contributions to the Territory’s workforce development strategies. As the foundation for RTPark’s Professional Pathways Program, VISTA+ continues to influence how talent development and economic growth are pursued in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
